Facts about Africa
Adventure vacationers and international travelers can find fewer places in the world with more diversity than Africa. This continent is an outdoorsman’s dream. Visitors can climb mountain peaks and escarpments, view impressive waterfalls, raft through long rivers, hike through forests, and take a safari through savannas teeming with wildlife. The many wildlife reserves and national parks provide the perfect environment to view wild animals, while villages and cities offer the opportunity to meet and mingle with a plethora of people and cultures. Volunteer vacationers and those interested in responsible tourism who want to make a difference on their trip to Africa can find a number of African service projects working to make a difference in the communities.
There are a large number of service groups dedicated to improving the environment and living standards in Africa. Many of these projects focus on wellness, health care, and awareness for inhabitants who might otherwise go without. These groups accept charitable donations of medical supplies and educational materials. Other groups work to improve the communities through personal and self-support, providing places to sleep, clean, and eat. Still more groups focus on improving the education in Africa by working with local schools to ensure that all students are able to learn; these groups accept donated school supplies and other goods. Wildlife and environmental support groups work to create wildlife and nature preserves, increase conservation awareness, and provide support for marginal communities.
