Belinda Farmer’s Story

Belinda FarmerIt was with much excitement that I discovered Pack for a Purpose, from a newspaper article in Australia. My family and I were travelling to Tanzania to climb Mt Kilimanjaro before enjoying various safaris throughout the Serengeti. However, due to our light aircraft restrictions it was necessary for us to be met at Nairobi International Airport on our arrival from Brisbane, to deliver our donations. Rebecca from ‘Pack for a Purpose’ immediately and efficiently ensured this was possible, introducing me to Isaac, who is linked to an educational centre in the slums of Nairobi. Upon learning of their specific needs, my family set about filling a spare suitcase with everything from pencils to paper to books to board games to flashcards to soccer balls to bandaids plus a new digital camera and a pre-loved apple laptop. Even though the suitcase weighed 35kg, the airline very kindly allowed it without penalty once they discovered its destination! It was just a feel good experience from the very outset! Isaac was indeed there to greet us and although he encouraged our visit to the children in the Centre, which we would dearly have loved to do, sadly, we were just too time poor. Isaac has since shared with us some beautiful photos of the children with our donations which warmed our hearts. We have told everyone about this fantastic organisation and will definitely be packing for a purpose when next we travel.
