My name is Ellie and I am an 11 year old, 6th grade student in Massachusetts. My family and I traveled to the Galapagos Islands over March break in 2015. I was super exited. I had studied about the animals of the Galapagos Islands in school and I wanted to do something to help the kids there. I found the website Pack For a Purpose though our tour company Ecoventura. I looked online and saw what supplies they needed for their schools. One of the items listed were Spanish – English dictionaries so I asked my Spanish teacher if he had any extra ones. The next day he gave me a big box of dictionaries that I had to carry around for the rest of the day. It had to weigh about 10 lbs! My friends were all asking why I was carrying them around as we don’t have lockers. I also asked our dentist and orthodontist friends if they had any extra toothbrushes they could donate. We packed 300 toothbrushes and the dictionaries into an extra suitcase and brought them to the Galapagos. Our naturalist guides delivered them to the islands. In the end it was definitely worth carrying around those heavy dictionaries in my suitcase as everything is super expensive for the people living on those islands and they really appreciate anything we can bring them.
