The purpose of life is different to all people. Some of us figure out what that means to us and some never do. Every day we are solicited for donations to help the world and we should help those who are less fortunate than us. However, there is something much different when one packs up their bag, packs up supplies, and flies to a foreign land to make a difference.
This is something that is very emotional. This is the type of experience that ignites ones senses. It cuts to your core. You feel it, smell it, touch it, and hear it. You can taste it. This type of travel has become my life purpose.
Many years of my life have been vacationing to obscure places. Combining an exotic experience with helping others provides tremendous pleasure and satisfaction. In my opinion, there is nothing better than to travel this way.
With that said, I woke up one morning a few months ago, and said, “We are going to Africa”! Peter, my partner, looked at me, rolled his eyes, and said “Ok….whatever. So I started my research which brought me to the Pack for a Purpose website.
Through Pack for a Purpose, I narrowed my trip down to Kenya and found Maasai Simba Camp. Maasai Simba Camp is special. Very special!
I got a head start on collecting donations and ended up with about 300 lbs of supplies (according to Delta). We brought school supplies, over the counter medical supplies and reading glasses. Everyone was so appreciative. These supplies served all generations of the community.
Maasai Simba Campis the place to learn about the ways of life of the Massai. Here you will have authentic experiences. You can walk with the elephants, dance with the Massai, learn to throw a spear, visit the health center, visit the school, teach a class, and learn how to bead. You are greeted with huge smiles by people who are so happy to meet you. Just as we want to learn about life as a Massai, the Massai wants to know all about us. We touched their hearts and they touched ours. We have made friends for life.
There is nothing more enriching and exciting than learning about cultures that are different than ours, and participating in their world.
Pack for a Purpose provides this opportunity. The truth is, it is for selfish reason that we are driven to do this. Why? Because helping others makes us feel good. There are so many places to go and so many people to help. Pack for a Purpose leads you right to those opportunities which are endless.
If you are reading about this for the first time, I urge you to take the chance. Find a place you like, pack up, Pack for a Purpose and GO. Your life will be changed forever.
After all…the purpose of life is a life of purpose. My next stop is Rwanda.
