On a work trip to the Turks & Caicos I chose to be a Pack for a Purpose traveler. I visited the Oceta Jolly Primary School with the GM of Ocean Club Resorts (where I was staying) that works with the school. The boys were competing to see who could carry my suitcase. Even though it weighed 50 pounds one small boy carried it by himself.
I didn’t realize I would be asked to go on stage in front of the entire school and talk to them but I did. I told them that I could’ve bought supplies by myself to take to them but I needed help to fill the suitcase. I asked them to tell me who I should ask for help. One little boy held up his hand and said “ You should ask your family and friends.” I said, “That’s exactly what I did and I had 13 different people bring me bags of supplies to fill the suitcase.” I added that we can’t do everything by ourselves and we need to ask for help sometimes.
It was a wonderful experience. I have told a lot of people about Pack for a Purpose and will be including it in my next article and spreading the word. Every time I travel I will see if my destinations are included.
