I’m Abby Gordon, a senior at North Carolina State University with a major in Psychology and a minor in Criminology. I plan to continue my education in Graduate school and expand my knowledge upon graduating with my undergraduate degree this Spring. With that, I plan to become a Counselor with a specialization in trauma and eventually a Trauma Psychologist. I always knew that in whatever career I may pursue, I wanted to be able to help people and make a difference in others’ lives. With these values in mind, once I learned about Pack for a Purpose through my advisor in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, I immediately knew that I wanted to be a part of this amazing organization.
During my time at NC State, I have seen what a difference can be made by simply advocating for a cause and that is what I hope to do for Pack for a Purpose. I have many friends that are frequent travelers and I made sure to spread the word about what a Big Impact can be made just by saving extra room in your luggage. I personally have never had the opportunity to travel abroad but since learning and working so closely with the amazing initiative that is Pack for a Purpose, I can confidently say that I will always be Packing for a Purpose on any of my future travel endeavors.
In my time thus far as Rebecca’s intern, I have had the opportunity to learn so much about the different communities of all the destinations on the Pack for a Purpose website. I have enjoyed being able to communicate with both participants and travelers and provide any assistance to ensure their meaningful travel goes most smoothly. I have also been creating content for our social media platforms, as well as uploading new participants on our website as we continue to expand our outreach.
In my free time, I enjoy baking, reading, working out, and spending quality time with my family, friends, and pets. I love the art of dance, as well, which I have practiced for over eleven years now.
Volunteer work has also always been important to me as I grew up participating in countless fundraisers and volunteer opportunities either through my dance company or my mom’s profession as a nurse.
