From Doha to Kenya – nothing deters a family willing to go the extra mile to make a difference during a safari.
Charlotte Szul and her family who live in Doha, Qatar, planned a Kenyan trip with Cheli & Peacock Safaris to the amazing Maasai Mara and they chose Elewana’s Elephant Pepper Camp for their stay. As they planned for this trip, they got in touch with the Land & Life Foundation (the non-profit supported by Elewana and Cheli & Peacock Safaris) showing interest to Pack for a Purpose towards the supported local school in Mara North, Ololomei Primary.
After several conversations with the foundation’s project manager, she realized that she could bring more supplies since the foundation would handle the logistics upon their arrival. A few school items morphed into boxes of supplies including rugby jerseys weighing 109 kilos collected from friends and their sons’ primary school in Doha.
“We will travel with our 3 kids (aged 5, 8 and 11) and I do believe it will be the right moment to teach them about how lucky they are” said Charlotte.
Once they arrived in Kenya, the family stayed at Tamarind Hotel in Nairobi before taking off to Elephant Pepper Camp. The L&L team collected the supplies from the hotel and transported them on road to the Mara, in time for their visit to the local school.
“You will be astounded as to the impact that a simple initiative such as packing supplies would have to the local communities. ‘Kidogo, kidogo, hujaza kibaba’ which generally means Little by Little fills the cup/will go a long way is a Swahili saying that puts this into perspective” – said Millicent Kimaita, Project Assistant at Land & Life Foundation.
