Shayla's Story

I was thrilled to meet Rebecca and Scott at the WashU Alumni event. When she told us about Pack for a Purpose, I was honored to be able to support her organization on our upcoming trip to Cancun.  Rebecca put me in contact with Ismerai Martinez of the Sandos project.Over the next several weeks, Ismerai and I discussed the needs of the Sandos project at the Mayan schools.  My son and I brought notebooks and scissors.

Once we arrived in Cancun, we coordinated a time that Ismerai would travel to our resort to pick up the supplies. We determined that it was easier to meet at the entrance to the resort since we were headed out for the afternoon.  It’s a very large, sprawling resort. So,my who son speaks a little Spanish asked Ismerai for the color of her car, but Ismerai gave him the color of her blouse!  We were afraid that we would miss each other!!

Fortunately, the taxi driver was able to help us locate Ismerai.  So, here we are on the side of the road for the handoff!Ismerai was very appreciative and have sent us a video of the children at a Mayan school where the supplies are being used.
