As a teacher of a 10th grade class I wanted to pack school items for Molibany Primary School in Masai Mara, Kenya as I stayed at Entim Camp for a couple of days in September 2018. I told my class (10th grade) about the project and they wanted to help, too. They collected a lot of money and thus about 21 kg of items were packed in an extra suitcase. Fortunately our flight to Kenya allowed a second item up to 23 kg so we could donate Book Bags, white and coloured Chalks, Colored Pencils, Compasses, Crayons, Dry-Erase Markers, Erasers, Pens, Protractors, Rulers, Solar Scientific Calculators, two English Dictionaries, English Story Books, three Biology Books about human body, and Jump Ropes.
My wife and I were warmly welcomed by the teacher named Daniel and the headmaster – whose name was Daniel, too. A lot of children wanted to be greeted by us. It is a Masai tradition that the elders put their hand on the children’s head. So the little children were queueing to be welcomed. What a nice gesture.
Afterwards we were shown around. Fortunately we brought solar scientific calculators and geometry items as the national exams took place in November and the students could use it.
It was a wonderful gift how we were welcomed and we will never forget the warm welcome of the teachers and the children queueing to be welcomed.
