Students Cruise, Learn and Pack for a Purpose

by Angela Leimer

Every spring students from Purdue University Calumet have the option of signing up for the Hospitality and Tourism Management, Educational Study Cruise. While taking this course the students explore the cruise line industry with a focus on hospitality, leisure, history and marketing operations, while getting the chance to explore other countries.

When Professor Geralyn Farley heard about Pack for a Purpose, she immediately contacted Rebecca Rothney, founder of PFAP, and gained more information on how her students could help out while taking this course.

When this opportunity arose, we the students were intrigued and very eager to help! With a little effort my classmates and I will make a big impact by bringing 3 pounds each of materials that were specifically requested from the needs lists located on the Pack for a Purpose website. We have collected over 100 pounds of needed supplies that will be given to the children of Ochos Rios, Jamaica through the Sandals Grande Rivera Beach and Villa Golf Resort when our ship arrives there. We hope to meet the students who will be receiving the supplies if it is possible….to be continued
